How you complete it, and with what weapon, is up to you in most cases. Unless the challenge states finishers like this where melee is required.
Using weapons with a lot of "impact" damage will open enemies up to finishers quicker than any other damage type. Excalibur's "Radial Blind" is also an easy way.
