I would suggest putting in the oil return into the rear cylinder like a lot of people have. But you might be able to get away with just plugging the hole in the airbox that the crank vent goes to.. If the radiator is full of coolant, the problem is most likely the thermostat. The fan switch is in the radiator, so it does not get hot enough to kick on when the thermostat is stuck shut. Given the age, I would suggest checking the coolant circulation after a new thermostat is installed.
