If you throw a demon fire orb, and you do not see glowing blue veins under the crust just stop. If you use an explosive jar, and the crust doesn't break, just stop. The 100 star metal ore inside those thick meteors isn't worth the cost to get it. So far the ratio seems about 4 to 1 in favour of the good meteors.
They fall in showers of 5-6 or so at a time and when they do you can't miss it, it's really loud and you actually see them fall like bright comets.
