The common knowledge is that serracenia and all North American pitcher plants require some type of dormancy to follow the natural rhythms of growth, flowering, seed, dormancy only to have the cycle repeat itself year after year.

The plants once grew in a huge field with acres of regular S. leucophyllas, and within the population were a few select white plants. S. psittacina, S. rosea, and several drosera species also grew in this gigantic field. These would be removed if everything is pruned. If the pruning is done at the end of winter I would expect that there would be more chance that the pests and disease could damage the plants because the thick growth which is mostly dead would remain on the plants for a long time. If I don't get to them before they freeze, I top water them and water their trays a bit, too. All, told, however, a frozen plant should be fine come spring.
