Zombies are fantastic, friend, but their despawn rate is awful. Sure you can always reacquire more zombies, but they'll never be the 'good zombies' you've farmed for. They have a despawn rate between 24h and 3 days and it almost feels random when they do. It can even happen while they are following you. Don't use black ice for your sleeping quarters, use a cool building material, dlc or reinforced stone building mats. Build a well for water and cooling, and house your campfire and maybe even the furnace in a separate unit so you don't overheat while crafting or cooking. Also make a maproom ASAP. It's hot there.
