The muzzle velocity for the 10-shot string of the Black Hills 5.56mm MK262 Mod 1 ammunition fired from the 20” Colt barrel was 2848 FPS with a standard deviation of 10 FPS and a coefficient of variation of 0.35%.I tested 7 different factory loads in zero wind, one of them was the AAC 77gr OTM, another was the AAC 77gr Sierra SMK. Averaging multiple groups per load, the "in-house" 77gr OTM was 1.317", the 77gr Sierra was 0.646". I also shot AAC 77gr TMK, which averaged 0.740". The different Hornady loads tested in the middle.
If you wanna spend money I'd go Black Hills 77gr OTM, IMI Razorcore 77gr, Federal Fusion MSR 62gr, or Speer Gold Dot 62gr. If you wanna spend less money I'd go AAC 77gr OTM or PMC X-Tac 55gr. I chrono'd some 2014 CBC 5.56 77gr and some 2014 IMI 5.56 77gr as a comparison to the AAC 77gr OTM. The CBC 5.56 77gr was doing an average of 2873fps out of the Krieger, previous testing of the same lot of 2014 CBC 77gr from a FN CHF 20" 5.56 chamber was an average of 2752fps.
Old 24" DPMS 1:9 barrel. 2.260" OAL, 2.280" to the lands with the 77 smk. Depending on the powder, ~2850 fps seemed to be 223 max pressure, 2925 fps for 556. Might get 3-4 loading at 2850, one and done at 2925. I do have some 55 grain thrown in there, but the heavier loads is what I usually shoot. The in house aac 77 grain has shot really well for me.
