I believe the intent at the time was to make a sub-compact concealed carry gun with a larger capacity, a great trigger, and one that would actually fit in the hands of a greater percentage of consumers. The "comp" isn't very effective. We're talking about something that only gets gassed a tiny bit before the barrel blocks the comp as the slide reciprocates. You're exhanging almost an inch of barrel length to have the inherently least effective comp you could design. I think the x macro and tacops have the same finish.

Mine has the built in comp. I can tell a difference between it and my XL. The difference is very subtle and if you aren't a very experienced shooter, doubt you could tell the difference. Disclaimer: I have not put the XL slide on the X Macro so the longer grip also plays into the difference between the two.
