Academics are important, but you can always buy books/journals and read on your own... you can't whip up patients to do surgery on if the residency doesn't provide ... Of all the careers I searched, Podiatry is the only profession in the military that receives no bonus pay/incentives etc. Every other profession listed in SDN is paid more.
