In my experience; Sturgian infantry soak up arrows best with their shield-wall, but that’s pretty much the only one-up they have.

I like to have a mix of everything. Infantry, archers, horse archers and cavalry. I find a hill and place archers with infantry in the foot of the hill in front. Then i go with the MAs and and cavalry to harras and kill their mounted units. If their footsoldiers wont move, I harras them with MA untill they rush my infantry and then sandwich them.

Legionairies are meant to set the standard for "Heavy Infantry" in Bannerlord, IMO, both according to "canon" as well as practical effect. I don't think there's a good "versus" comparison on paper.
