Vlandian Pikemen are really lousy and outclassed by Vlandian Sergeants. Imperial Palatine Guards seem almost completely outclassed by Imperial Sergeant Crossbowmen. Cataphracts are the tankiest, banner knights for the charge damage, Druzhniks if you want to dismount and use them as infantry, Aserai for javs/multi role really. Khans for mounted archery. Imperial Elites wreck in out performing others in cavalry and have great armor and weapons. Just can’t beat ‘em.
Imperial Units are good all-around Infantry and have some of the best armor in the game. Legionairies are meant to set the standard for "Heavy Infantry" in Bannerlord, IMO, both according to "canon" as well as practical effect. I don't think there's a good "versus" comparison on paper. You'll have to see for yourself.
