Glenfield 30a vs marlin 336.
Hello, this is my JM stamped Glenfield 30A which is basically a Marlin 336 but with a cheaper stock and its in great condition. By my research it was made in 1973 based on the serial number. There is still plenty of rifling left so it hasn't been used that much. It comes with a Japanese made scope that is Glenfield branded and is very clear.
Marlin marketed the following lever action center-fire rifles under the Glenfield name: Model 36G, from 1964-65 Model 30, from 1966-1972 Model 30A, from 1973-1983 Model 30GT, from 1979-1980 Model 30AS, in 1983. Like they said $200 is a far price for one in excellent condition. $2600, must have been looking a something else. 100% blue book of gun values is $220. Earlier today I made a trade for a Glenfield Model 30A, cal. .30-30. It is pre-crossbolt safety, blue steel and a hardwood stock which I believe is probably birch. It is in very nice shape. It has a forearm end cap rather than the rear barrel band. Q.: Is there any significant difference between it and a Marlin 336?

Some will just barely keep 3 shots in 3". When they were sold they were significantly cheaper than a 336, but today there just doesn't seem to be too much difference in value.

Yeah, $250.00 is a little low. The Glenfield Model 30A is not the Marlin Model 336, but in another sense, it is. The main difference is that the Glenfield has a walnut stained hardwood stock (usually birch) whereas the Marlin as a walnut stock. Can a Marlin Glenfield 30a be modified to use 336 furniture? I have an old Glenfield 30a with some finish issues, I was going to refinish the gun, and put some new stocks on it to replace the worn and battered beech wood.
Marlin has a ramp front sight, the Glenfield uses a front sight dovetailed into the barrel. The Marlins have a little nicer rear sight.
