Without it its worse dps than most common things. You lose 2.5% dmg and 5% accuracy on top of -9 ranged attack bonus. I ran faveguard/bofa until my first purple. Now I got the helm :D. It's pretty normal to run it without the helm at TOA. I recommend using the helmet just because of the boost in performance that the full set of crystal provides and how much it speeds up croc and wardens.
