You’d be over allocated and a down move in SPY would wipe your account. Also, a long call has a lot of extrinsic that you’ll bleed. Pretty much any trade I make has the amount of theta and premium I collect in mind. A simple method I use is to make trades based on the credit received. A $10 wide put spread should collect around $150 for a month. You still can contribute to a Roth. It just takes an additional step. Contribute to a Traditional IRA then immediately make a Roth conversion. It's known as the backdoor Roth. There aren't currently income limitations on conversions to Roth. Though, some of the current tax change proposals would change that. If we enter low volatility environments then running theta isn't great. You should only be applying thetagang approaches on high IV stocks exclusively if you want good returns. Personally I don't do theta on any stock under 100% IV. This is the best way to get good results from thetagang approach.
