Subaru outback driver window reset.
Sometimes, not always, while parked I try and roll up the driver's window. It goes up and then comes back down halfway and stops, even if I keep holding the switch, engine running or not, in drive/reverse or not. Also sometimes, when locking the car (with window down) the window automatically goes up (okay), but then comes halfway down.
After the reset it will work normally from both seats. Basically you put the turn the key on, open the drivers door, and close it, then open the drivers window half way, then close it. This should reset the power window. There is a fuse box under the hood on the driver's side (with spare fuses in the lid) and another in the driver's side under dash. Both covers have legends on them describing the fuses. On a routine visit for service, I asked the service dept to help me reset the passenger window. After the dealer reset failed to correct the window bounce, the service writer just use a screwdriver to clean out gunk in the window's upper channel. Problem solved! The bounce was just caused by gunk blocking full closure.

When I try to close the passenger side window by lifting the power switch, it goes all the way up then bounces back to halfway shut (or open - take your pick). It won't move up again until I move it down after which i can incrementally move it up until it closes.There's a window reset procedure that might fix this - maybe caused by the battery disconnect. So until the passenger window is "reset" such that the computer knows the difference between real obstruction and something in the way before the window is supposed to reach it's limit, it will not let the driver control it. I'm not saying this is an ideal way of handling this, but this could explain it.

Two weeks ago on a trip I heard a ping, and got a 8" crack on the drivers' side of the front windshield. The crack has now grown to 2/3 of the way across the windshield.It's also very simple, so it's possible it's the same in 2017. Even if the wiring is identical, a number of things need to be changed: Drivers's switch cluster. $125. Rear door switches $50 x2. Rear door motors $280 x2 (I think those need to be changed as well) total $785. Seems like there's not enough voltage going through the switch to the driver side window, The 18 V supply is 50% more than the design of the motor, so it's very likely that it would run a lot better. The motor could be "tired", and that is why it's slower when using just the 12 V from the driver ...look up a sensor reset. Pull the switch up 10 times, push it down 10 times, then pull up and hold for 10 seconds. After you toggle the lock switch and if you had disconnected the battery before, the passenger window may only roll down from the passenger's side switch, not from the driver's side. Usually the reset procedure solves the issue. I'd try disconnecting the battery for 2 or 3 minutes to ensure the window module memory is killed, and after reconnecting it again, try the power window switch. I had a similar thing with our Mercedes but that was caused by a low battery and when starting the car the power dropped enough to wipe the radio presets and the window switch memory. Its been fine since. Reset them see how it goes. New cars arent as bad as microsoft windows but they still occasionally need a reset.
