All BDR are designed to ridden by loaded 1200 gs bikes. As others have stated, the BDR are often graded dirt roads that a mini van can easily travel on. The BDR always avoids the nasty jeep roads, and single tract. Personally, I like lighter bikes, find them less fatiguing in the dirt. I would take a 690/701, 950se or dr650 for a BDR trip.
