2 1/2" SHELLS ON A MEC 600 JR. Hello everyone. I just picked up an old side by side that has a 2 5/8" chambers. I have been trimming some Remington Gun Club hulls down to length and loading them on a 600 but I will eventually be switching to the 2.5" shells either by trimming them with a tool or buying the hulls new from an on-line source.MEC 600 JR. I decided to grab another 600jr to set up for the longer cases. $105 including shipping . Decent looking...Needs a bit of cleaning up is all..... It has the late style crimp die as well as the late style wad guide... Missing the primer seater spring and spring pad....Cup is there. Those seem to fall out and get lost quite often on ...You're right the MEC bushing chart compared to Hogdons MEC bushing chart doesn't jive so I can see the advantage of grain scale for reference before mass production. Then I steel wool or sand off any light rust and re-blue those parts. I have repainted the bases with spray paint and they look new.

I have load thousands of .410 2-1/2" & 3" shells on my 600 JR mark V.To load 3" shells remove the bolt in the press raise & the press 1 bolt hole.You MUST CHANGE THE CRIMP DIE to the 3' die!!!Turn the cam all the way up,slowly lower the crimp punch until the crimp is the depth of a dime (.055) then turn ...Having owned both, the MEC is better quality with a body of all steel parts. In fact, I have two set up for .410, one for 20 gauge, one for 16 gauge, and one for 12 gauge. So I'm not exactly a novice at loading shotgun shells with a MEC 600 Jr.I know for sure we removed the 6 or 8 pre-crimp die and used only the flat washer in the 600Jr. That resulted in producing a factory like finish shell every time. Please consider creating a new ...If there is, it would have to decap better and precrimp and crimp a whole lot better than a MEC 600, and not bridge shot and powder. A .410 might be a case where a single stage is the best way to load shells. I will say, that reloading .410's is one of the few examples of actually saving a large percentage of the new cost of shells.

I've been researching the possibility of getting into reloading 12 ga on a small scale, and have been looking at MEC 600 Jr. presses. There are descriptions of the 'older' model, and the 'newer' model. A beginners basic guide to loading shotgun shells with a Mec 600 loader. Is a very basic guide for the beginner.
